Bonding Frits
Abrasive grinding materials are moulded into shapes such as grinding wheels or sticks, using laquer or ceramic bonding frits, to hold the abrasive grains togather. However, the grinding process causes heat, which often causes laquer and other organic binding materials to disintegrate. ceramic frits, however, not only are heat resistant, but are much harder, and better for grinding processes.
The abrasive material moulded into wheels can be alumina oxide, used for grinding and polishing steel, or diamond dust, used for cutting and polishing diamonds. Other abrasive materials can also be held togather by appropriately designed bonding frits.
